Sezer Durak-History Doctorate Program

How do you plan to shape your career?

Thanks to the scientific knowledge I gained while completing the courses and language requirements offered in the history doctorate program of our university, I can make different career plans. Like every student in our doctoral program, I plan to contribute to the developments in the scientific field by taking part in one of the academic positions first. I think that the curriculum prepared in line with the understanding of global history and our doctoral program, which is shaped by an understanding of historiography that closely follows today's social science paradigms, offers important opportunities in this regard. Any student graduating from the history doctoral program can develop and teach well in the World History, European History, Ottoman and Islamic History courses of universities.

In addition to academic career opportunities at universities, I think I can take part in think tanks that develop social and political analysis of our country. In particular, the interdisciplinary approach followed by the department is not only in terms of history but also in the analysis in these institutions; It will allow me to contribute by considering other social science formations. In addition, multilingualism, which is one of the conditions that every student must complete during the doctoral program, provides a wide literature opportunity and expands the field of study geographically.

Finally, I think that I can contribute to various research projects carried out outside universities as a full-time researcher. Important contributions can be made to the science of history both in a study to be carried out in the archives and in a comprehensive research that concerns one of today's social problems.

What are the Contributions of Ibn Haldun University to Your Student Life?

Our university's history doctorate program is an ideal place for graduate students with its academic staff specialized in different fields of interest and its curriculum renewed in line with current developments. From the first years of his studentship, an important way has been covered in the historiography profession with the theoretical course contents related to the methodology of history, as well as scientific research assignments for the use of documents. In addition, the fact that the doctoral program deals with a wide range of approaches and types of historiography from Italian micro-history to socio-cultural historiography from ancient times to the present is an important factor in the emergence of comprehensive studies. Today, when interdisciplinary studies in social sciences are on the rise, it is an important contribution that the history doctorate program encourages the use of historical data in line with the methods and concepts developed by various social sciences during classroom training and individual research. In addition, with a technically compatible curriculum, the education of doctoral students is designed to enable them to develop by considering their own interests. For example, in addition to research courses consisting of analysis methods, history resources courses classified according to periods and genres are taken in two of the three education periods. In this way, we both learn the sources well and produce at least two publishable academic studies based on them. Finally, one of the most important contributions of the history doctoral program is that, in addition to the university's trilingual policy, the learning of a fourth language as a research language is undertaken and resourced by the department.
