Voluntary Internship Directive

Ibn Haldun University – Voluntary Internship Directive

At Ibn Haldun University, we highly value supporting our students' academic knowledge with professional experience, helping them become familiar with the working world, and enabling them to take well-informed steps in their career planning. In this regard, we offer voluntary internship opportunities to our undergraduate students, allowing them to explore professional life and discover potential career paths outside the scope of compulsory, credit-bearing internships.

You may find the Voluntary Internship Directive and the Frequently Asked Questions document below, both prepared to ensure a more effective and well-structured voluntary internship process. This directive covers all principles and procedures related to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of voluntary internships, aiming to enhance our students’ awareness of the professional world and support them in gaining the experience necessary for their career development.

The Voluntary Internship Directive was approved by the Senate on 31.10.2025 and will not be applied retroactively.

Application Requirements

  • Being at least a 2nd-year student as of the fall semester of the relevant academic year,
  • Having a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50,
  • Having no disciplinary sanctions (except warning),
  • Not currently working as an insured employee within Ibn Haldun University,
  • Maintaining active undergraduate student status from the beginning to the end of the internship.

Application Process

  1. Students who wish to undertake a voluntary internship are responsible for the following:
  2. The student must first submit their voluntary internship request to the Career Center via email. This email may briefly include the dates and the name of the institution where the internship will take place. At this stage, the Career Center evaluates the student’s eligibility for the internship.
  3. Once the student is accepted for the internship, the employer must inform the Career Center in writing within a minimum of ten (10) and a maximum of twenty (20) business days.
  4. If the application is approved, the Internship Application Form sent to the student must be completed accurately and in full.
  5. The student must complete the sections of the Internship Application Form pertaining to them and submit it to the Career Center along with the Advisor Approval Form.
  6. The student is required to submit their voluntary internship documents to the Career Center at least five (5) business days before the internship start date. Applications submitted outside this timeframe will not be accepted or processed.

Internship Duration and Locations

  • Students may complete up to a total of 75 business days of voluntary internship during their studies.
  • Internship insurance may only be issued for a minimum of 20 business days at a given institution.
  • This internship entitlement may be used at a single institution or divided among multiple institutions depending on the student’s preference.
  • Double Major Program (ÇAP) students are granted an additional 75 business days of voluntary internship as long as their ÇAP enrollment continues. This entitlement becomes invalid once the ÇAP registration ends.
  • A student wishing to terminate or pause their internship before the approved end date must submit their justification in writing to the Career Center at least 5 business days prior to the requested date of termination or interruption. The Career Center assesses whether the justification is valid.
  • Students who terminate their internship without providing a justification or whose justification is deemed invalid by the relevant unit will have one month deducted from their future voluntary internship entitlement in subsequent applications.

Reporting Work Accidents During the Internship

  • If a student with internship insurance experiences a work accident during their internship and receives medical attention, they must inform the Career Center within two (2) business days.

Insurance Procedures

  • If the student requests to extend their approved voluntary internship, the remaining entitlement may be insured again by the University. Any period exceeding the student’s voluntary internship entitlement must be insured by the employer institution.
  • The student is responsible for informing the employer representative in writing that internship insurance will be terminated by the University at the end of the approved period.
  • The student bears full academic, administrative, and legal responsibility for any consequences arising from the failure to notify the University in a timely manner regarding the end of the internship.
  • Students who begin their internship without employer approval or who are absent for more than 10% of the approved internship period without a valid excuse will have their internship terminated.

Internship Forms and Documents

  • Students applying for a voluntary internship must fill out the Internship Application Form and the Advisor Approval Form and submit them to the Career Center.
  • The acceptance letter from the employer institution must be sent from an official corporate email address to career@ihu.edu.tr, and must include confirmation that the student has been accepted for the internship along with the specific dates.
  • Following the approval of the application, the SGK Insurance Document prepared by the Directorate of Human Resources will be provided to the student.
  • The Internship Approval Form will be provided by the Career Center upon the student’s request.
  • After completing the internship, both the Internship Evaluation Survey sent to the student and the Employer Feedback Survey to be completed by the employer must be submitted.

Extension and Completion of the Internship

  • A student’s request to extend their internship is evaluated based on the employer’s positive Employer Feedback Survey and the student’s positive Internship Evaluation Survey.
  • In cases of early termination or extension of the internship, the student must notify the Career Center of the change within at least 5 business days.
